The restaurant is located in the commercial zone opposite the highway from IOI mall. Here’s an artistic sketch on the location:

And what do you get? Smooth, thick and fragrant BKT soup, the formula for great taste!! Just for comparison, no BKT along the stretch of Old Klang Road even come close. There are many fans of Klang BKT so I’m not going to start a war comparing with those there.

I can spend all day dreaming of eating BKT here lol

Nasi Kukus Pandan @ Pertama Complex

A customer brought me to this place during lunch ~ it was a surprise to my taste bud.. Following her recommendation we ordered the Nasi Kukus Pandan and Ayam Dara Goreng Berempah combo:

The steamed rice is fragrant, so is the fried ‘virgin’ chicken. The outer part of the chicken is crispy yet at the same time the flesh is still soft, juicy and tender, on top of being fresh and sweet! Definitely worth RM4.50 for this!

The service was quite fast and the chicken is served still sizzling fresh from the wok.

Damien and Mel was holding onto our loot the other day, just got these from Damien last night. Looked relatively clean, must be so since Mel said she’s gonna give them a bath Sunday afternoon.

Went to buy them a crabitat (a plastic aquarium) and some empty shells after work.

It has been soooo long I’ve been quietly living with discontent. Just imagine having (made in Masai, Johor) Pringles invading your buccal cavity. Urgh the disgrace. The humiliation. What happened to freedom of choice?!?!

Here I was happily walking along Jalan Gading (sandwiched between Starhill and what’s left of KL Plaza) into this relatively unknown shop called 168 Store to get my Nescafe can when I saw it. The familiar looking Julius Pringles printed on cans that are bigger than usual. For those that has not noticed the diameter of Masai Pringles can are slightly smaller than those imported ones.

So what if it costs RM6.90 per can. Tonight , there is one more satisfied male on planet Earth!

just got back from one of their jamming sessions @ awakening studio.. these guys really have good chemistry!

With their upcoming single ‘nudist song’ in recording process these guys are preparing for Make Amends, this may be their next next single. This will be my personal favorite.. can really jump to it!!! hope there will be an acoustics/ballad version too..

Quoted from Needless, for now seemed to be Eve’s catch phrase. Started airing in Japan 2nd July, I just watched ep.1 looked like fun although most times could get very childish. Anime styling is much like IMO Gurren Lagaan.

Story? Much like childish version of Heroes, on top of normal human there are some with special abilities known as Needless, some can transform themselves (like character Eve Neuschwanstein), some can copy/memorize abilities (like character Blade ‘the priest). I’m sure there will be many more characters along the way. For now I will tag this anime as potentially fun to watch.

This is Cruz Schild, one of the main character – currently without ability – probably this will be the character with the most development in this series

For unknown reason Eve prefer to call him Yamada; far right on screenshot below is Gido the scientist.

its been very very many years i’ve been thinking of getting myself one Facebook account but the thought of maintaining something like another Friendster account ~which i haven’t touch longest time – it still has my ex’s photo on it :D ~ makes me feeling lazy to do it..

Then this lab PYT Adela told me everyone has it – and kinda kutuk me for not having one.. so I try try la.. wow within minutes friends are saying things like “finally you’re here” and “it’s about time”, makes me feeling like i’m out of action in this world for the longest of time..

after an hour I’ve found so many people I’ve forgotten I know.. sorry guys.. I guess its normal when you are 30.. or have I been that anti-social??

kinda funny though when I updated profile to be single the wall suddenly reads ‘Dennis Ooi is now single” – as though it just happened - and when I add my buddy then is says “Dennis Ooi and William Lim are now friends” – hey Facebook I’ve known him 10 years.. cute :P

super fun Saturday! feat. Widuri Day 2009

It was indeed one crazy day. Before that here’s my first appearance in the local papers.. the part of the organizers of Widuri Day 2009. none of us was aware the photo was gonna be in Friday’s edition of Kosmo! everyone in committee was laughing on how sloppy we all looked. I was unnamed (far right).

Somehow people always spell my name wrong since college.. guys its Dennis not Denise or Danish.. sheesh.

I was DJ-ing for almost throughout the event, and partly MC-ing until Damien came during noon and took over the shift. which was kinda fun. Will post some more photo later once I get my hands on them.

Then it was steamboat/BBQ dinner with another group of friends, in a super packed steamboat restaurant in Sri Kembangan, can’t remember the place’s name though, food is so so la..

finally got my hands on RAINBOW

..literally. My mail order for ayumi hamasaki’s 2002 album, RAINBOW arrived today! only two days after ordering from yesasia.com. It came together with my order of RAVEX’s single, Believe in LOVE featuring, non other than BoA. ~yay!!~

Thus far IMO this is the best ayumi’s album up to date. This year’s NEXT LEVEL just can’t compare. Due to recent house moving I came across the Pasar Malam copy so I tried to give it a listen. The audio quality is just horrible, therefore I decided to search for it in music shops. They just don’t sell it anymore. Even yesasia register the overseas version ‘temporarily not available’ for at least two months now. So finally decided just get the Japanese print instead which is costlier but given the lack of choice (~~and how short life is~~) I ordered it anyway. just wished I purchased this when it was just released, because there was a hidden track from this album only downloadable with a given code in the album.. guess i’m 7 years too late now :(

and yeah it was worth it. the songs are still worth listening to for at least years to come. love all of the tracks, Heartplace being my personal favorite.

Songs with 5 star rating on my iPod: WE WISH, Real me, Heartplace, Over, HANABI, everywhere nowhere. Others rated 4 stars :D

Believe in LOVE in contrast is released this year, I believe there is no word about this single being released elsewhere but Japan therefore still had to import the Japan print. Have not got time to open it yet, will give it a spin tomorrow if time permits :D

After months of being curious what the hype is all about, finally got myself a box of 6 to try out. Chosen all the ‘cake’ types this round..

Conclusion? Too sweet. Don’t really like the texture. No more cakes next round, shall give their Glazed doughnuts a try next time.

Side note: The extra sugars do help make me feel less sleepy though.. maybe its not all bad after all.. XD

Dear Mama,

Today I have confirmed my strong belief (and your constant accusations) that your dear son is indeed a shopaholic. The hint not being the countless amount of CDs purchased after downloading them first. Not the accumulating BluRays that will never be unwrapped. Not the monthly credit card bills that *almost* hit the roof.

My dear Mama,

Today is a particularly bad day for me, which almost never happens. But by which a bad day for my definition would be a bonus for your daughter. It’s a combination of scorching hot sun, talking to smart people, idiot drivers and cumulating documents on my in tray. But when I look at my super worn out work shuz I just can’t stand it but rush out to buy a new pair (if my boss is somehow a freak who reads blogs of their subordinates, no by rush out I mean after work hours).

Mama,

When you see me still sleeping when my beloved sister has left home for work you would have figured going to work is not my passion. So why oh why am I feeling perky all of a sudden after providing cash to the guy on the other side of the counter? Am I not paying for accessories that reminds me of days of torture? But still its almost feeling like I just purchased yet another pair of RAM to add onto my best pal in the world – my PC that never sleeps (bless that poor soul).

Oh dear mama, since when is a pair of working shuz = a pair of performance RAM?

* ok, for those not in my social cycle, note that I’m neither a geek, nor an introvert although this article may suggest so. nor am I a mama’s boy. Most facts here are made up to mock a dear ‘non-imaginary’ friend of mine. But fact be told, yes this urban youth shall now and forever be a certified shopaholic!

The Fray – nice tunes

Here I was, listening to the newly downloaded album (read pirate) of The Fray’s self-titled second album, and I got really interesting. So I thought, hey, I’m bored at home, lets go buy this at the mall..

So why did I buy this album 4 months after its release? As I was watching Revenge of the Fallen for the second time in cinemas yesterday, I started noticing this song playing in the background when Mikaela was in the workshop. As I found on the soundtrack listing the song is ‘Never Say Never’. Well you must admit, seeing Megan Fox and having the lyrics ‘..don’t let me go, don’t let me go..’ in the background really makes one.. well, have imaginary hopes ;)

ya and what business I have watching the movie again? Four words – Megan, Fox, and slo-mo running. (or was that 5?).

No jewel case for the CD, just cardbox cover like my Minutes to Midnight album. But surely this album deserves to be sync-ed into my iPod. And it sounded way better than downloaded copy after I imported it from the CD at 128VBR AAC.

I would say this album is cool, because I noticed this band since their first album, comparing both in my judgement this album is an improvement over the first. The songs help to set a nice evening atmosphere in my room. Noticable tracks are ‘Syndicate’, ‘Absolute’, ‘You Found Me’, ‘Never Say Never’, and ‘Where The Story Ends’. Love the instrument arrangements first, will study the lyrics booklet later. From what I’ve heard the lyrics should be good..

Energ!z!ng: Herbal Duck Drumstick Soup Noodles, Bidor

I fondly remember this place since I was a kid. Almost every year my parents would drop by whenever we are driving to Penang on our annual visit ‘balik kampung’. Been meaning to blog about this since then, but there are always some form of inconvenience; I'm either lazy, and oh ya, there was no blogging in 1985 =D.

So this time around I had to travel to Penang (again) for work. On the way home I was feeling sleepy, in fact I was feeling sleepy since passing Taiping. Then decided to drop by Bidor to rest a bit. And eat some noodles.

Name of place is Restoran Pun Chun, located on one of the busiest streets of Bidor. It is a corner shop, taking up two shop-lot space. It is not pretentious, still retaining the authentic feel of kopi-tiam from ages back. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes (which I could not explore yet) and tasty biscuits and bakeries. Note: This place serves non-halal food. Yum

The dish of concern? Here it is! Hot, tasty, ENERGIZING! For only RM6.60 per bowl, you get fragrant herbal soup with one whole drumstick. And my feeling of fatigue are completely gone after the tasty treat!

It’s only 1km away from the toll entry. Opens daily, 5am till 10pm. Ah, there are lots of petai being sold along the street too. The Chinese community speaks Cantonese in this town.

Penang Free WiFi

Long Live Penang (which I am proud to say my state of manufacture) for free internet!

Here I am standed alone working outstation, and this time I did not bring the DiGi access. I am already logged into the StarBucks station in Queensbay when I suddenly remembered the state has pushed for island wide coverage, so I feel curious to try it out.

To note I could not get detect this on Penang Rd at the hotel I am staying at so I assume it is still on hotspot basis.

Me+iPod Nano+My Sony MDR-EX85

I was hunting for replacement headphones for my iPod Nano mid last year. Not because I lost the original white ones but because the white earbuds does not match the color of my black iPod. You see, having the black tune player hooked up to white earbuds with white colored wires simply look.. funny.The MDR-EX85 better match my black iPod Nano

The Sony’s EX Monitor series claims to offer studio monitor sound quality and true to life sound. So, how true is this?

MDR-EX85 is an in-ear canalphone which means you plug it into your ear canal. However, unlike most canalphones there appears to be two grid area for the driver, one inside the removable rubber plug and one on the outer ring. Fact is there is only one physical driver unit (13.5mm) each side. During playback both these grids emit the sound. Supposedly the area in the rubber plug makes the bass sounds stronger, and the outer grid complements by making the mid and high notes sound better. The existence of this outer grid, however also means you will ‘share’ your tunes with people in your immediate surrounding.

Compared to the white buds that comes with the iPod Nano unit, I would say this canalphone is way far superior in audio quality. The bass is much stronger and higher notes sounded very crispy clear. Turn the volume all the way up and you won’t hear any distortion (given your audio track is properly encoded, of course). The plugs also act as ambient noise isolators so unless you are in a cinema or clubbing the MDR-EX85 is highly capable of isolating (passively) surrounding sound giving you only your tunes.

The MDR-EX85 is light and comfortable for prolonged listening too.

If you are hunting for a new pair of headphones to please your ears, I’m sure you can’t go wrong with Sony’s EX Monitor series, especially given the price range is more comfortable for most as compared to the likes of Shure, Bose and Klipsch.

What’s fun about.. Basquash

Soul Eater has ended. So what do we do in between waiting for our weekly feed of Naruto and Bleach? Of course we search for other anime to satisfy out hunger.

So I have been following Basquash for a few weeks now. At the time of writing I’m about to watch episode 7. Since this is anime is about basketball with players handling Bigfoots (mechs) I was not hoping too much initially – I’m not really a big fan of mech (or sports) anime.

Surprisingly the anime is very fun to watch. Very interesting characters, excellent animation, great urban feel to the setting, funny punch lines and lots of ‘lunar boobs’ jokes. This is one of those anime where you won’t get lost with too many characters being thrown to you at the same time. There are many characters (note one Iceman Hottie) but they will be introduced in the show at a comfortable pace.

..and oh, Nike is ‘sponsoring’ shoes for the Bigfoots.
